RE: Found source of smell (pic) - need a solution!

The "valve" you have pictured is a vacuum breaker and is common even in homes. If the smell is coming from there it is defective and can be replaced from a plumbing supply or Home Depot type store. It also may be just loose. The distance from the sink to the vent makes it necessary.

RE: Cougar 292 RKS

rseymour21, We have a similar floor-plan minus the bedroom slide. There is only two of us and we pack reasonably. My 2500 has no problems and all weights are close but under limits. The 290rks has no shocks but carrying 1/2 a tank of fresh water makes it ride great, lowers the pin weight somewhat and makes pit-stops easier.
In my opinion and experience ... Go for it. I think you will like the Cougar RK, we find it very livable.

RE: Antenna broke off, now how to fix it?

I don't think that any two trailers are wired the same. If your antenna is close to a roof vent you can remove the inside trim to access the base of the antenna. (usually four screws and the handle)
Hopefully any extra wire was not pulled out while the antenna broke off. Most times there is plenty of slack to push back up through the grommet on the base plate and replace the F-connector. Caulk the grommet to prevent leaks. If you have to snake a new cable be sure to use RG6/U cable, it is much better for digital signals.
Hope this helps, Hank

RE: Fifth Wheel Heights

I believe all Cougars are said to fit under 12' according to their web page.
Mine does ... I did replace the AM/FM antenna with a rubber one .. just to make sure.

RE: Dumb question TV & Air bags

I am going to try and clear this up one more time. (pause .... deep breath)
#1. If you put 80 psi in your TIRES before you hitch up, there will be no significant change in pressure after hitching providing the temperature of the tire has not increased.
#2. As for the air bags. 50 psi on an empty truck is TOO much lift and the OP did correct and say he just threw out that number. Of all the posts saying I am wrong I have not seen one that says they start with 50 psi before hitching. I wonder why?
Anyway: I apologize to the OP for any confusion I may have caused by trying to answer both his questions in one post without clearly separating them.

RE: Dumb question TV & Air bags

The 80 psi was TIRE pressure. So by your theory you decrease the pressure in your tires to carry more weight so as not to exceed the tire and wheel pressure rating. I think not. In TIRES 80 psi is 80 psi. (cold inflation)
As for the air bags. On my truck, 50 psi will lift the rear of my empty truck about 8 inches.(looks cool but not practical) Maximum load only drops the rear (without Bags) 2 1/2 inches. So if I need 50 psi of lift I am overloaded. Thus my statement about 50 psi.
This is NOT JMHO it is fact. :M

RE: Dumb question TV & Air bags

80 psi is 80 psi no matter how much trailer you put on it.
If you NEED 50 psi in your air bags you probably need a bigger truck. JMHO

RE: Sold My 5th Wheel today, Diesel to High and Truck is next

The way I look at it ... I have a vacation home in every state plus Canada and Mexico ....... MY 5er! If you don't like your neighbors you can't move your lake house or seashore cottage .... I can and do. You pay maintenance and insurance on everything you own. I'll keep on camping, Thank you.
As for my truck: I have had one for over 40 years and don't feel safe driving in a "roller-skate". So I guess I will have to pay for the lifestyle that I have become accustomed to. No! I don't like the high fuel prices but they will not keep me from enjoying these damn, so called, GOLDEN YEARS. I've earned them. ;)

RE: Gas mileage with your rig alone, and with your fiver?

Just came back from a 3000 mi trip. A low of 14.2 and high of 15.8 towing for 2400mi. Solo 21 to 23 highway 16 to 18 city. The new 5er weighs 4000 lb. more than my old one, but I get better mileage. I attribute this to the shape, I feel much less resistance to head winds in the new 5er.

RE: Buying new 5er

We had our last 5er almost 12 years. We kept it in perfect shape but it needed a new A/C and tires and we wanted more room. So we started looking and found the Cougar 290RKS fit our needs and budget best. We have had it since 8/07 used it for one month and 3000 miles. No major problems and very comfortable for us.
Pardon the pun but I guess you could say we are happy campers.
In my opinion .... A good dealer is more important then the manufacturer if you realy like the unit. JM$.02

RE: Will airbags work with my set-up (Dodge truck)

The ride rites helped level and smooth out the ride on mine. I think we have the same chassis. Should be fine.
Don't feel bad .... sometimes I talk to myself, too. Usually when I want to have an intelligent conversation. ;)

RE: Keystone owners club?

Humpty is correct .... no 2 are the same from ANY manufacturer. The manual for the Everest is the same as the Cougar. Piping and wiring are any body's guess. It all depends on where that worker felt like putting them. (Usually in the same general area) Also depends on options factory insatalled or not.
Every Manufacturer will tell you there are no schematics for trailers. :h

RE: Any pics how you mount your bikes to a Keystone bike rack?

I got a cheap bumper mount rack from JC Whitney (under $80) and modified it to slip over the upright post. I can carry the bikes on the platform or reverse the rack and carry bikes with bumper slid in. Inexpensive pipe foam insulation pads the upright and separates the bikes. If this photo does not work it, and others, can be seen on the link in my signature.

RE: keystone electrical issues

It's not only Keystone. 30 amps just goes so far. We only use the electric water heater if we are not using AC. If you are tripping breakers in your panel check the voltage coming in .. you may have a bad plug or connection or not getting full voltage from CG. If you are tripping the CG circuit your just using too much.

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch Location

The no-drill mounting kit from Reese for my '04.5 Dodge Quad-cab long bed puts the pin about 2 inches in front of the axle. Your location does not sound correct. I would contact Reese Tech Support and see what they say.

RE: front of fiver

I can't say anything about an add on but, my old 5er was like a rolling brick. The front was almost flat. Our new 5er has a rounded plastic front cap .... it weighs 4000 lbs. more but tows easier and I get 2 mpg overall better on the same route with the same TV. IMHO trailer manufacturers have to improve shapes to increase fuel mileage the same way auto-makers have. (to some point) JM$.02

RE: Is 12ft. possible?

If you go fast enough they all will fit. ;) But I seem to remember when we bought our Cougar part of the sales pitch was they all fit under 12' door. I think they have a few BH models. I used to haul hay and letting the air out of the tires got me out a few tight spots.

RE: Easy Winterizing Port?

I've never heard it called "Easy winterizing port" but my Cougar came with a water-heater by-pass and low point drains. I think most fivers today come standard that way. It works for me. ;)
